Hi Folks!
What I ask is the following -
A photo of where you intend the painting to go (an iphone photo is fine) – this tells me a little about the room and what size painting might work well. If you want to measure the area that is helpful too. I also need to know if you think you want to ultimately frame the painting or hang it unframed.
I need a list of a dozen pieces that I have previously done (just the name of the painting works fine- some just have camera numbers) and please pay NO attention to size, subject, etc- just if for whatever reason you like the painting. This tells me something about what you ultimately want to see in how I handle the subject. You can find a bunch of images from my website here or from the photo albums on my facebook art page http://www.facebook.com/janschmuckalart . You do not need to be a facebook member to view that page.
I need a rough idea of a subject from you.
I need to know if you have a preference of substrate: canvas, linen or wooden panel. If it is a sizeable painting just for weight's sake I will recommend the canvas or linen, however wooden panels are also a popular option for those folks who don't like the texture of canvas.
Now....all that said, I do not duplicate a painting done previously. I will take into account if there is one painting that you are particularly drawn to and would like to know that as well.
So....now you have gathered all that info. Email or message it to me, the photo of the room wall too please.
I will take a look and let you know roughly a time frame for when I might be able to work on your piece. I will also give you a rough idea of cost and shipping costs. If you wish to proceed, great!
I do not supply frames. On my website I show Dard Hunter Studios frames as I have a great working relationship with them, and they are indeed marvelous pieces of woodworking, but if you desire a DHS frame you will need to call them to order one. It is a simple proposition to install a painting in one of his frames, all that is required is a cordless screwdriver. Alternately, I can ship the painting to Dard and he can frame the piece for you, but really it is a very easy thing to do yourself and there would be less probability of shipping issues for large paintings if the frame were shipped to you separately. Smaller paintings or paintings on board is not so much of an issue.
I do NOT require nor want any downpayment nor any sort of upfront payment for NEW compositions. No financial commitment from you at all. You will not be committed to purchasing anything sight unseen.
When the painting is completed I will email you an image of the completed painting prior to my signing it- at that point I can make minor adjustments if you desire. Or, you can simply wish to pass. And that is OK! If you wish to pass, I will simply put the painting up on my website for my other collectors and someone will surely love it. No harm no foul! Though I will say I have a very good track record of happy clients!
*** If you are looking for a very large non-standard sized piece, please note that I no longer have the facility to build wooden crates - so I will be painting your piece unmounted and ship it rolled in a sturdy tube. I will arrange for a correct set of stretcher bars and braces to be shipped to you as well...you will want to use the stretcher bars that I send. The cost savings of shipping a tube will more than pay for the stretching services that you will need to have done at your local picture frame shop.
If you approve, terrific! I will email you a Paypal invoice or you can send me a check, then I will get the painting crated up and shipped off to it's new home!
NOTE: If you are desiring a piece that is substantially similar to something I have already done, I do require a downpayment of half of the estimated price prior to commencing and the balance is owed upon completion.
